“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27
“God’s voice is not absent in our lives; it is often crowded out by our noise.” — Alma Ohene-Opare
Commentary:
We live in an age of constant signal. Notifications flash, opinions compete, and urgency demands our attention. Yet the voice that matters most rarely shouts. The Lord does not force His counsel upon us. He honors agency. He speaks with clarity, but often with quietness. Just as a radio must be tuned to the correct frequency, our hearts must be tuned through humility and obedience. If we neglect that tuning, we mistake silence for absence.
Freedom depends on discernment. A nation that cannot recognize truth becomes vulnerable to deception. The same is true of the soul. When we ignore God’s whisper, we slowly substitute impulse for wisdom and preference for principle. Moral law does not bend to our distractions. The more we drown out His voice, the more we drift from the safe harbor of His guidance. Listening is not passive. It is an act of disciplined faith.
Christ showed us how to listen. He withdrew to pray. He sought the Father’s will before acting. In Gethsemane, He submitted His desire to divine purpose. Listening for God’s voice requires surrender, patience, and courage to obey what we hear. When we quiet ourselves before Him, we strengthen our spiritual independence and walk the path of Christlike living.
